| (Tohon Newsletter Vol.2_No.2_Total No.6) by Mr. SOHARA Yoshio Living in Brazil; the head of Tohon South America mission center It has been almost five years since our Tohon South America mission center was established on Sep. 1996, which is 110th Anniversary of Oyasama, the Foundress of Tenrikyo, by the warm parental love of the grand church head minister. Brazilian missionary work is getting active for the 50th anniversary of founding of the Brazilian mission headquarters. Although I am working hard to save others, there are many problems on it. Ninety percent of Brazilian nation believe in Christianity, which is deeply rooted in their life. In Japanese Brazilian society, lots of different religions are in being at the present time. Many of them engage in missionary work by using their own translated doctrine in order to spread native Brazilian with it. In Brazil, we have the same problem as an advanced nation has. Our task is to carry out our missionary work with tackling such difficult problems as the breakdown of the family, the crime committed by low-aged people, and the frequent occurrence of the atrocious crime. Now we have to find out how we can spread the teachings over Japanese Brazilian and non-Japanese. Spreading the teachings, we, of course, try to make no distinction between Japanese and non-Japanese. However, it is fact that Japanese Brazilian is apt to be object of our missionary work. As we know non-Japanese people also seek salvation, we must strive to serve the Path of world salvation. To find a way out of these difficulties, we make arrangements for missionary activities, and we need to help people recognize that Tenrikyo church is the place for the service, the place where salvation is practiced, and the place where we learn the teachings. In the face of the 2002 Tohon convention, thinking of the first head minister of Tohon grand church, it is very important for us to confirm the favor of the heaven and the Path of the Divine Model. And also, we need to point out them to people through our attitude. I consider that a try to practice the teachings in our daily life is the first step toward 120th Anniversary of Oyasama.
